Tips & Tricks Busy Professionals Can Use to Simplify Their

Shoebox B-Gone!
If your accounting “tracking system” is a shoebox or envelope full of receipts,
use the nearest pen to make tracking expenses a breeze. Here’s how:
Pull out all those receipts and categorize them into “business” or “personal”
expenses. If a receipt has both business and personal expenses on it, circle the
items that are for business use. Once your caught up, don’t get behind again!
Get in the habit of jotting a note on your receipt when you first receive it.
For example, if it’s a business meeting at a restaurant, write down the person
you had lunch with as soon as you pay for your meal. If it’s supplies for the
office, write “supplies” at the top before you put the receipt in your wallet.
Categorizing expenses now will make the data entry process easier, saving you
time and money at the end of the year. If you’re doing your own data entry, take
it in small bites. Get in the habit of entering information on a weekly or
monthly basis, rather than waiting until the end of the year when it seems too
overwhelming! Many banks allow you to download your transactions directly into
Quicken and other accounting software as well. Making use of this feature can
greatly increase your efficiency.
If you’d like assistance tracking your business expenses, just give Ribary &
Associates a call. We can create systems, organize, track, and enter all your
