The weather is heating up fast! We are set for temperatures over 100 degrees F (for the Northwest, that is HOT)! Some of us are blessed with air conditioning for days like these. However, what do you do when you work from home with no A/C? I’ve scoured the net for great tips to help you stay cool during the heat of summer. Read on, and if you have any to share, please leave a comment and help your fellow humans stay cool!
Tips for Staying Cool – Even Without Air Conditioning
- Stay hydrated – drink a lot of water and less coffee and alcohol…that includes wine (darn!)
- Eat spicy foods – they help you sweat and stay cooler
- Eat smaller meals and more often – your body will create less heat that way. Less heat is good!
- Use a spray bottle filled with water and spritz yourself (add peppermint essential oil if you have it)
- Run cold water over your wrists for about 10 seconds
- Use a cool wet towel around your neck while you work
- Soak your feet in of bucket of cold water (or a kiddie pool if outside)
- Take cold showers – yes cold, a few times during the day to bring your body temperature down
- Avoid strenuous activity
- If your house is just too hot, work from an air-conditioned community center, library, or coffee shop
- Go to the movies and soak in the cool air
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat if outside
- Visit friends with pools – can never have too many of those!
- Take a break – enjoy a slower pace for the day
I hope these give you a few additional ways to stay cool this summer! Please leave any additional tips in the comments below.
